Devotion for May 14, 2025

There’s a kind of exhaustion that doesn’t come from doing too much—but from trying to prove too much. You carry the weight of performing for God, striving to be “enough,” stacking spiritual checkboxes like bricks, hoping one day the tower will reach heaven.

But Jesus interrupts the climb.
He looks you in the eye and says: This is the work—believe.

Not “do better.” Not “fix yourself.” Not “earn your worth.”
Just this: believe in the One He has sent.

It sounds simple. But it’s the hardest thing for a weary soul trained in self-effort.

To believe means to release your grip on control.
To believe means trusting that what Jesus did is enough.
To believe means refusing to barter with grace.

The crowd in John 6 had just witnessed the miracle of loaves and fish. They wanted more signs, more proof—more reasons to trust. Jesus gave them none. He didn’t point to the bread. He pointed to Himself.

You don’t need another miracle. You need Jesus.
And the beauty of this verse is that belief itself is a miracle—“the work of God.”

So if your faith feels small today, remember: God is the One who began this work in you. And He’s still doing it. You’re not failing by resting. You’re finally aligned.

You don’t have to hustle your way into God’s presence. You just have to believe the One who stepped down to meet you where you are.

Today, put the striving down.
Pick up trust.
And walk in the holy work of believing.

Prayer for May 14, 2025

Lord Jesus, I’ve spent so much of my life trying to earn what You’ve already given. Help me rest in the truth that believing in You is enough—because You are enough. I lay down my efforts, my fears, and my need to prove myself. Teach me to trust fully in the finished work of the cross and to walk each day in the freedom of Your grace. Amen.
