Today Bible verse is – Matthew 6:22-23
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
Devotion for April 28, 2025
Dear beloved, the Lord Jesus Christ said, “If your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.” But if your eye is corrupt, your whole life will be filled with darkness. Think about the weight of those words. The kind of darkness Jesus refers to is not just external but one that governs your inner life, your thoughts, and your decisions.
You don’t have to physically commit sin for impurity to take root—just seeing someone with a lustful eye can become spiritual adultery. Jesus taught that even looking at someone lustfully is already adultery in your heart (Matthew 5:28). So if you entertain sinful thoughts after seeing someone in a defiled way, you’re already caught in sin.
Today, many people are struggling because of what they allow their eyes to focus on. Their spiritual growth is hindered. Why? Because God said, “If your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
When we read about Job in the Bible, it says Job was a great man. But what made him great? We often overlook the reason behind his greatness. Job himself said, “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman” (Job 31:1). He consciously decided not to misuse his eyes. That’s the kind of discipline that led to his spiritual strength.
Many people today complain that they’re stuck in cycles of temptation or spiritual attacks. But here’s a secret: the day you stop using your eyes to look at defiled things is the day those attacks will begin to stop. As long as you keep watching sinful things, you will keep falling into deeper darkness.
If you want to reach higher levels in your life—spiritually, emotionally, or even professionally—you must start with your eyes. The eyes determine the direction of your life. Remember what God said to Abraham: “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are… for all the land that you see I will give to you” (Genesis 13:14–15). When Abraham looked, God responded with promise and purpose.
Likewise, if you keep your eyes pure, God will lead you into His light. When you walk in the fear of the Lord and keep your eyes clean, God will illuminate your path, just as He did for Abraham and Job. He will make you great for His glory.
Prayer for April 28, 2025
Almighty God, I thank You for this Word today. Lord, I make a covenant with You concerning my eyes. I pray that I will not look at anything unclean or impure. Help me by Your grace to walk in Your light every day. Let Your holiness guide my vision and my heart.
I surrender my eyes to You. Let them be full of Your light. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
