Today’s Bible verse – John 15:5 (NKJV)

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Devotional Thought For Today

You don’t notice the slow withering at first.

Maybe your calendar stayed full. Your prayers got shorter. You told yourself you were just “in a dry season.” You still love God—but somewhere along the line, the connection grew thin. And now, if you’re honest, your soul feels brittle. The fruit that once flowed freely—peace, patience, joy, gentleness—feels like it’s disappeared.

Jesus’ words in John 15:5 cut through the noise: “Without Me, you can do nothing.”

Not “a little less.” Not “you’ll manage okay.” Nothing.

This isn’t punishment. It’s truth spoken in love. You were never made to live apart from the Vine. Your strength, your clarity, your purpose, your very breath—all of it flows from Jesus. Not just once, when you got saved, but every single day.

Think of a branch broken off a tree. For a while, it might still look alive. The leaves may even stay green. But it’s dying—quietly, inevitably—because it’s no longer connected to its source.

Maybe that’s you right now. You’re functioning, even serving. But you feel dry, stretched, and distant from God. And you’re wondering why the fruit is gone.

Hear this: Jesus isn’t shaming you. He’s inviting you.

“Abide in Me.”

Come back to the Vine. Not out of guilt—but out of hunger. Out of truth. Open your Bible not to check a box, but to meet Him. Pause your hustle long enough to pray—not polished prayers, but real ones. Let Him prune what’s been choking your growth. Let Him breathe life back into places you thought were too far gone.

When you abide, fruit follows. Maybe not overnight. But it comes. Because Jesus is not just the source of life—He is life.

The takeaway? Stop trying to bloom apart from the Vine. You weren’t made for self-sufficiency. You were made for connection.

And in Him, you will bear much fruit.

Prayer for June 3, 2025

Jesus, I’ve drifted. I’ve tried to handle things on my own, and I feel the emptiness. Bring me back to You—the Vine, my source. Help me abide, not just in routine, but in deep, daily relationship with You. Prune what’s unfruitful. Revive what’s dry. I want to bear fruit that glorifies You and blesses others. Keep me close, Lord. I can do nothing without You. Amen.
