Today’s Bible verse – 1 Timothy 4:8 (NKJV)

“For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

Devotional Thought For Today

You’ve been trying. Haven’t you?

Trying to get stronger. Trying to feel better. Trying to get your life together. Maybe you’ve even started a new workout plan, fixed your diet, cleaned your room, or downloaded another productivity app. But deep down, despite all the outer order, your soul still feels cluttered. Restless. Distant from God.

Paul gets it. He’s not knocking the gym or discipline. He’s just pointing to a deeper, better reward.

“Bodily exercise profits a little…” he says—not nothing, but not everything. Because while physical training strengthens your body, godliness strengthens your soul—not just for this life, but forever.

You can lift weights and still carry crushing anxiety.
You can stretch every morning and still feel stretched thin by life.
You can be lean in body and still heavy in heart.

But godliness—knowing Jesus, walking with Him, becoming like Him—that’s the kind of strength that never decays. It outlasts your age, your energy, your efforts. It shapes your today and secures your tomorrow.

And the beauty of it? You don’t need a gym membership or a morning routine to start training in godliness. You need a willing heart. You need a moment like this one—where you decide to stop performing and start pursuing. To stop managing your life and start surrendering it.

Because when you train in godliness, you’re not just learning how to cope—you’re learning how to live.

It starts with daily, even hidden choices:

  • Opening your Bible before you open your phone
  • Praying when you feel anxious instead of scrolling away the tension
  • Choosing forgiveness over grudges, peace over pride, obedience over ease

This kind of training doesn’t show up on your scale—but it changes the weight of your soul.

So what if today you started training for the life that really matters?

What if you pursued God with the same fire you pursue success, fitness, or comfort?

What if you believed that in Christ, every small act of faithfulness echoes into eternity?

Godliness is not just for the holy few—it’s your invitation to a life that counts now, and lasts forever. The world will always chase results. But you, beloved, were made for fruit that remains.

Prayer for May 28, 2025

Lord, I confess—I’ve been focused on outward change while neglecting inward renewal. Train my heart in godliness. Make me hunger for You more than anything this world offers. Teach me to walk with You daily, to choose what is eternal over what is easy. I want to be strong in faith, rich in love, and full of Your Spirit. Shape me into someone whose life reflects Your glory—now and forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
