Today’s Bible Scripture – Philippians 1:9–10
“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.”
Devotional Thought For Today
There’s a love that feels right in the moment—impulsive, emotional, and eager to please. And then there’s the kind of love Paul prays for here: a love that abounds—not just in feeling, but in wisdom, in depth, in the quiet courage to choose what’s right when it’s hard.
That’s the love you need when your child walks away from God, and you’re tempted to rescue rather than pray.
It’s the love you reach for when you’re in a relationship that feels good, but deep down, you know it’s not holy.
It’s the kind of love that doesn’t just accept everything, but discerns what is excellent. What leads to life.
Paul isn’t praying for shallow affection. He’s pleading for a love that is anchored in truth—a love that learns to see through heaven’s eyes.
And maybe that’s exactly what you need today.
Because the world is loud. Everyone has an opinion. Even your own heart can confuse you, pulling you toward what feels loving, while slowly leading you away from Christ. But God’s love is never blind. It’s clear-eyed. Holy. Wise. And it calls you to grow in the same way.
Paul says when this kind of love fills you, it leads to something precious: purity and blamelessness before Christ. That doesn’t mean perfection—it means walking in a way that doesn’t sabotage your own soul. A way of life that points to Jesus.
So what are you facing today that needs this kind of love?
A tough conversation you’ve been avoiding?
A compromise you’ve been making?
A person you need to forgive—but also set a boundary with?
Pray for love that abounds—not just in emotion, but in understanding. Ask for a heart that knows when to say yes, when to say no, and how to cling to what is excellent in a world full of distractions.
This isn’t a sentimental kind of love. It’s a Spirit-empowered love. And it’s how you stay rooted. Pure. Ready for the day of Christ.
Prayer for May 29, 2025
Lord, fill me with Your kind of love—a love that sees clearly, chooses wisely, and stays faithful even when it’s hard. Teach me to discern what is excellent. Guard my heart from shallow choices. Help me walk in truth and grace, so that my life reflects You and prepares me for the day I’ll stand before You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
