Devotion for April 29, 2025
Dear friends, the Bible tells us that when Jesus Christ was about to ascend to heaven, He gave His final command to His disciples and to over 500 followers: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised.” On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended, all who were present were filled and began speaking in other tongues.
Once they were filled with the Holy Spirit and anointed, the disciples began performing mighty works. People were healed just by the laying on of hands. This power was not new—before Jesus’ birth, the Holy Spirit would occasionally descend on certain individuals and fill them for specific tasks.
But in the Old Testament, God had declared that only the priests—those who were chosen and anointed—would carry the burden of the people and offer sacrifices on their behalf. The anointing upon them made their lives rich with the best oil, finest wine, and great blessings. When God appointed priests for His service, they were set apart and consecrated for holy duties.
Now, under the new covenant, if you have received Jesus Christ, then you are considered a priest of God and Jesus Christ is your High Priest. When you accept Christ, God sees you not just as a priest but as a royal priest. Just as He saw the priests in the Old Testament, He sees you now—with His anointing upon you. Therefore, He desires to give you the finest wine, the purest oil, and the best of blessings.
So, dear friend, as one chosen and anointed by God, keep yourself holy. Cherish the calling you have received. Guard the anointing He has placed on your life, so that the Lord can release His best into every area of your life.
Prayer for April 29, 2025
Heavenly Father, I thank You for this word today.
Lord, I accept that You have set me apart, and I now receive Your calling as a priest with full consecration. Help me walk worthy of this calling and receive the blessings You’ve reserved for those You’ve anointed.
Let Your grace be upon me. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.
