Finding True Rest in Jesus Christ

You spend your days chasing quietness.

You buy noise-canceling headphones, schedule weekends away, or download apps to help you quiet your mind.

Yet the noise inside your head does not stop.

You still carry a quiet panic about your future, your family, or your finances.

Your experience matches a familiar phrase.

No Jesus, No Peace. Know Jesus, Know Peace.

This is not a clever riddle or a threat.

It is a description of how human beings are built.

When you try to find rest apart from Jesus, you are trying to drink from an empty well.

You might find temporary relief, but you will not find lasting quietness.

Jesus spoke directly to this struggle during His final hours with His disciples.

He knew they were about to face intense fear and confusion.

He told them, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 (KJV)

The peace Jesus gives is different from what the world offers.

Worldly quietness depends on your circumstances.

It requires a good bank account, a healthy body, and a quiet house.

If any of those things change, your quietness disappears.

But the peace of Jesus does not depend on your environment.

It depends on His presence.

To know Jesus means to live in constant contact with the source of rest.

It is not about knowing facts about Him or attending a religious service.

It is about trusting His character when your circumstances are falling apart.

When you know His character, you know that He is good, that He is in control, and that He does not abandon His people.

That knowledge changes how you view your problems.

The Apostle Paul described this reality when he wrote to the believers in Philippi.

He did not tell them to try harder to feel calm.

Instead, he gave them a specific direction.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

This quietness passes understanding because it does not make sense to the natural mind.

It allows you to stand firm when everything around you tells you to panic.

If you are tired of living in a state of constant worry, you must change where you are looking.

Here is how you can begin to practice this today.

First, stop waiting for your circumstances to change before you find quietness.

Accept that trouble will come, but recognize that Jesus is already with you in the trouble.

Second, use your moments of anxiety as prompts to speak to Him.

Instead of letting your mind run through worst-case scenarios, tell Him exactly what you fear.

Third, read His words to remind yourself of who He is.

You cannot trust someone you do not know, and you cannot know Him if you ignore His words.

True quietness is not the absence of trouble.

It is the presence of Jesus.
