Devotion for May 23, 2025

Words can wound deeper than a blade. You’ve felt it—the sting of betrayal, the quiet erosion of trust, the whisper campaign that tears through reputation like wildfire. Maybe it was a friend who turned, a co-worker who lied, or even a loved one whose words left scars no one else could see.

Proverbs 11:9 doesn’t speak in gentle metaphors. It names the threat outright: destruction through speech. The godless man weaponizes his words. He doesn’t need a sword—just a sentence. Lies. Accusations. Manipulation. With his mouth, he levels relationships, reputations, and entire futures.

But then comes the promise: “By knowledge the righteous are delivered.”

Not by retaliation. Not by shouting louder.
By knowledge.

This is not intellectual trivia or heady theology—it’s the soul-deep understanding of who God is, who you are in Him, and what His Word says over your situation.

When someone tears you down, it’s tempting to defend, explain, justify. But sometimes, the most powerful answer is quiet confidence in the truth that cannot be shaken.

God delivers you by reminding you who you are.
You’re not the sum of gossip. You’re not bound by slander. You’re not defined by what someone said behind closed doors.

You are His.

And in the knowledge of that identity—in the wisdom of His Word and the clarity of His promises—He lifts you above the fray. You don’t have to live in reaction to other people’s voices. You can live in response to God’s.

So today, if you’re navigating a storm of false words or hidden attacks, don’t sink. Rise.
Root yourself in the Word. Let God’s truth deliver you from every lie.

Because the righteous aren’t destroyed by words.
They’re delivered by the Word.

Prayer for May 23, 2025

Father, when words come against me, remind me of Your truth. Let me find shelter in Your promises, not in the opinions of others. Help me walk in peace, not in fear. Deliver me from every false voice and root me in the unshakable knowledge of who I am in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
