Trust is not passive resignation. It does not mean sitting back and doing nothing. Trust means doing what God told you to do today, while leaving tomorrow’s results in His hands.
Consider King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. Three massive armies surrounded his nation, completely outnumbering his forces. He had no military strategy capable of saving his people.
He stood before the entire assembly and prayed: “For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12 (ESV)
Jehoshaphat was honest about his limits. He admitted he was powerless. He admitted he did not know what to do. Then he fixed his gaze on God rather than the invading armies.
God did not ask Jehoshaphat to invent a battle plan. God told him to take his position, stand firm, and watch the deliverance unfold.
3 Practical Steps To Release Control Today
When your circumstances feel overwhelming, use these three practical actions to redirect your focus:
- Name what you cannot change. Write down the specific things keeping you awake at night. Separate what you can control (your attitude, your integrity, your daily choices) from what you cannot control (other people, future outcomes, sudden changes).
- Surrender the outcome out loud. Speak directly to God about the specific situation. Tell Him: “I cannot control this outcome, but I trust Your character with the result.”
- Focus on your immediate assignment. Ask yourself what obedience looks like in the next two hours. Feed your family, finish your work task, or speak kindly to the person in front of you. Faithfulness in the small, present task breaks the paralysis of future dread.
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV) promises: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Peace does not come from having all the answers. Peace comes when your mind rests in God’s ability to manage what is entirely beyond your reach.
